US-Based Software Company Signs Pact With IIT-R On National Science Day, MTech Students Will Receive Scholarship | Dehradun News
Roorkee: On National Science Day on Monday, the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, signed an agreement with an American software company, Ansys Inc, to provide scholarships for MTech students. The scholarships will be awarded to students from diverse backgrounds, preferably female students. This joint initiative aims to accelerate innovative research in the form of technological solutions for society.
Underlining the importance of the Ansys scholarship award, Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director of IIT-R, said, “This scholarship will motivate our students, especially our female students, to work for technological solutions for society. The mindset of the institute and the facilities available on campus will allow them to move smoothly from ideation to creation.”
Echoing a similar view, Rafiq Somani, Regional Vice President – India and South Asia Pacific, Ansys Inc, said, “Ansys has a long association with IITs, and has always believed in and remains committed to power. combination of technology and education. The future of any industry undoubtedly depends on technology, which is why research is crucial. With these research fellowships, we at Ansys hope to provide these bright young minds from India with a much-needed fast track to technological research with a focus on health, education and the environment. We look forward to research results that will hopefully provide radical solutions to these socially relevant areas.
In addition, IIT Roorkee hosted an interactive session on “DNA for Startups”, with Mr. Rafiq Somani, Regional Vice President – India and South Asia Pacific, Ansys. Inc. This session focused on the development of startups using emerging technologies to deliver products or services to market. Speakers pointed out that the development of new-age technology-based startups can provide opportunities for passionate entrepreneurs, thereby boosting the economy and generating job opportunities.
In addition, the occasion was marked by the scientific day conference. The Chief Guest – Professor T Pradeep, Institute Chair Professor, IIT-Madras, delivered a lecture (via online mode) on “Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Clean Water”. Meanwhile, Professor Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director of IIT Roorkee, also addressed the gathering on the importance of Science Day.
The Dean of Academic Affairs, Professor Apurbba Kumar Sharma, welcomed the participants and thanked all the Roorkee schools for their overwhelming participation in the events.
Prior to the National Science Day event, IIT Roorkee had held a debating competition among school children in Roorkee on January 21, followed by an inter-school science quiz competition on February 17, 2022, for students from local schools in Roorkee.
