New software application helps the Sri Lankan Consulate General in Melbourne deliver efficient services – Adaderana Biz

The Sri Lankan Consulate General in Melbourne has implemented a digital consular desk management system to provide efficient consular services to the large number of Sri Lankans in the Australian states of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. This “app” was launched to reduce the Consulate General’s operating expenses, in line with the government’s policy of reducing expenses, while offering better service.

The Consulate General in Melbourne receives approximately 150 passport applications, 50 birth registration applications, 100 attestations, 100 dual nationality applications, etc. per month, transmitted by a small staff. Thanks to this new system, applicants can obtain an advance appointment to come to the office and can check the status of their applications on their own. It has drastically reduced application processing time as it has eliminated tedious manual record keeping tasks.

With the launch of this system, processing and transmitting back-office applications, generating reports and keeping candidates informed of the progress of their applications has become fast and efficient. This system also includes applications submitted by post.

Following public procurement procedures, Sri Lankan software developer “Loons Lab (Pvt) Ltd” was selected to develop this software application, making it the first of its kind to be used in a Sri Lankan mission abroad. Under the leadership of Consul General Kapila Fonseka, Consul Diana Perera spearheaded this initiative with a dedicated staff that made this difficult digital transformation possible.
