DroneDeploy Expands With Acquisition of Robotics Software Company Rocos | Weekly farm
New Zealand robotics software company Rocos was taken over by a Silicon Valley firm this week.
The acquisition will enable San Francisco-based drone data company DroneDeploy to make physical workflow automation possible.
DroneDeploy software is used with aerial and ground robots on more than 400,000 sites around the world in the agriculture, construction and energy sectors.
DroneDeploy CEO and co-founder Mike Winn said the acquisition would allow customers to automate ground-level data capture.

“Businesses are undergoing a digital transformation accelerated by the challenges of labor shortages and remote operations linked to COVID. As a result, the market demand for automatic site documentation and digital twins has skyrocketed, ”Mr. Winn said.
“With the acquisition of Rocos, we are enabling our customers to automate data capture at ground level, bringing us closer to several stages of a complete automation solution. ”
The process of integrating Rocos’ robotic control with DroneDeploy’s indoor data processing technology to provide full-scale 360 tours and autonomous inspections has already started.
David Inggs, former CEO and co-founder of Rocos and now head of ground robotics at DroneDeploy, said drones have moved from hobbyist toys to corporate tools.
Mr Inggs said robotics on the ground is now on a similar trajectory.
“With the addition of Rocos’ ground-based robotics technology, DroneDeploy can now automate critical data workflows in aerial and ground use cases, enabling greater safety and efficiency for the entire jobsite.” , did he declare.
