Software company faces lawsuit over alleged ‘less treatment’ of women

The plaintiffs concealed their identities, but say they had to resign because of the company’s discriminatory actions. According to a SiliconValley.com report, one of the employee lawsuits alleged that the discrimination began during the hiring process and continued throughout employment. Filed in San Francisco Superior Court, the lawsuit seeks class-action status to open “hundreds of current and former employees who have been victimized over the past four years.”

In the same report, another employee said “she had developed a stomach abscess that her doctor suspected was related to stress at work.” Her supervisor allegedly threatened to terminate her employment if “she did not return ‘quickly’ to work” while she was on sick leave. As she believed the company was ‘targeting’ her, the woman said she ‘felt she had no choice but to return to work, against the advice of her doctor,’ the lawsuit states. .

When she returned to work, the supervisor allegedly “harassed her about when she [would] be fully recovered and functioning at full capacity,” which caused her distress, according to the report. She also alleged that the human resources department did not follow up on her complaint, so she was “forced to resign”.

The other employee was an account executive who said that when she had a high-risk pregnancy, she noticed “a big drop in opportunities available to her” after telling her manager, SiliconValley.com reported.

“The company fired her for a promotion in favor of a less experienced male employee who had not been with the company for that long,” the lawsuit states. He also alleged that when pregnancy-related issues delayed her in completing a task, her manager allegedly responded with “no apologies”.
