Software company Corel acquires Awingu and secures the remote workspace
“We are committed to helping organizations navigate this change in the workplace,” said a Corel executive.
Software company Corel has acquired Awingu, a secure remote access technology provider. The companies did not disclose the dollar amount of the acquisition. Awingu will join the Parallels portfolio of brands.
The combination of Awingu and the Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS) platform means that end users will benefit from increased flexibility and freedom. They will be able to work securely from anywhere, anytime, on any device or operating system. Parallels, part of the Corel Group, is an all-in-one application delivery and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution. It provides remote access to virtual desktops and applications delivered through on-premises, hybrid, or cloud-based environments.

Prashant Ketkar is Chief Technology and Product Officer at Corel.
“The future of work is now; we live it. The pandemic has further accelerated the need for organizations to determine and shift their remote and hybrid work infrastructures. Today, organizations are looking at how they can meet the flexibility employees want with their workplace while ensuring secure and efficient access,” Ketkar said. “We are committed to helping organizations navigate this change in the workplace, and with the addition of Awingu, we are one step closer to improving the experience of every stakeholder who interacts with our products.”

Ideal for medium to large businesses, Awingu offers organizations a secure way to facilitate bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies or work from anywhere with its easy-to-use and secure unified workspace, the company said. With this technology acquisition, the Parallels RAS platform will become a single solution. It will give customers the ability to easily access legacy and cloud-native applications and files. The platform will alleviate IT teams’ worries about data security and infrastructure complexity.
A range of solutions
Awingu will continue to work alongside offerings from Parallels to provide secure remote workspaces to customers. These include the healthcare, finance, manufacturing, government and telecommunications sectors. Additionally, Awingu will expand its integration with Parallels to accelerate innovation and provide a unified capability for secure remote access to legacy and cloud-native applications. This will provide a range of solutions to customers leveraging on-premises assets, hybrid architectures and any cloud.
Walter van Uytven is CEO of Awingu.
“I am thrilled to join the Corel organization with the Awingu team. Both companies have a customer-focused mindset and share a mission to ensure a seamless, secure and efficient workspace no matter where an employee is,” said Uytven. “With Parallels RAS, we will bring our customers a broader and richer set of solutions in the secure remote desktop and application streaming industry.”
The Awingu team will join Corel. They will bring their strategic and technical expertise to the organization to help accelerate product roadmaps.
