Salford partners with UK’s leading software company to create tech opportunities for students – FE News

The University of Salford today announces its partnership with IRIS Software Group, one of the world’s leading providers of mission-critical software and services and one of the UK’s largest privately held software companies. The initiative opens up opportunities for talented computer science and engineering students at Salford.

As part of this partnership, IRIS will work closely with the University, helping students find employment in their chosen field through internships, work experience and graduate school openings. This builds on an existing relationship that includes IRIS’ participation in the University’s annual HackCamp competition where students have the opportunity to work on live briefs and solve with their IT expertise.

IRIS has also revealed that it will provide scholarships to three Salford students from low-income backgrounds in Years 2 and 3 of study in Computer Science and Software Engineering subjects. This provides welcome financial support to those who need it most, removing barriers to study, a strategic priority of the University.

Dr Julian Bass, Head of Computing and Software Engineering at the University of Salford, says:

“We are proud of the reputation we have earned in the IT industry. It is thanks to our valued partnerships with the industry that we have been able to offer a program of the highest caliber. We are excited to continue our relationship with IRIS and provide even more opportunities for our students who will now become even more unstoppable in the industry.

Stephanie Kelly, Chief People Office at IRIS Software Group says:

“Our mission is to improve the way professionals work by making critical business processes as efficient as possible. Our technology platforms transform industries by reducing the time, energy and effort professionals spend on administration, reporting and data entry.

“With this in mind, we seek to help students understand the areas in which they can pursue careers in a rapidly changing technological environment. We believe that knowledge is one of the most powerful tools you can give someone, so we aim to inspire and support the next generation of talented young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to reach their full potential.
