Razer buys haptics software company to help improve Hypersense
Razer is getting into PC gaming immersion, as it acquired a company specializing in haptics. The peripherals giant already has a raucous product line, including the Kraken V3 Hypersense, but it says the acquisition will help improve game integration and expand the range of accessories.
In a recent press release, Razer revealed that it has acquired Interhaptics, a software company that creates haptic design tools. In a statement, Interhaptics CEO Eric Vezzoli called the decision “no brainer”, while expressing a desire to provide an “engaging gaming experience”. Razer’s senior vice president of hardware, Alvin Cheung, said the move would help “broaden the HyperSense ecosystem” and facilitate a “personalized gaming experience.”
Razer’s Hypersense technology has been around since 2018, making its debut in the Nari Ultimate. Adding haptic feedback to a pair of cans doesn’t necessarily make them the best gaming headset out there, but it does provide a sense of immersion that holds the weight, especially if you’re a fan of FPS games.
Razer’s Hypersense feature is still in its infancy, but the accessory maker is working to bring more products to market. A loud version of the Razer Enki Pro is expected to arrive later this year, and we could see more products that use the technology thanks to this acquisition from Interhaptics. Sure, a shaky gaming mouse might sound ridiculous, but maybe Razer’s new team of haptics experts can make it work.
