Raleigh Relay’s software company outpaces its NC State home

A Raleigh startup says it’s moving to a North Hills tower after experiencing exponential growth during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Software company Relay announced the move on Tuesday, saying it has seen its recurring revenue and customer base grow 645% over the past year.

“Simply put, we are growing incredibly fast and need more space to support our scaling team. North Hills is the perfect location for the next phase of our growth given its central location. and the breadth of its amenities,” Chris Chuang, CEO of Relay, said in a press release.

Relay is a cloud-based platform that helps put digital communication tools and performance tracking data into the hands of frontline businesses, a vision it focused on in early 2020.

“Our mission is to serve the 80% of the global workforce that doesn’t sit at a desk. These billions of people work in industries like hospitality and healthcare, but shockingly still use pre-internet technologies like analog walkie-talkies,” Chuang explained.

Relay’s software features include instant communications, real-time location tracking of people and equipment, physical route optimization, workflow automation, and worker safety solutions.

The company supports the entire 18th floor of Advance Auto Parts Tower, a 20-story building located on Six Forks Road in the heart of North Hills.

The Advance Auto Parts tower opened on Six Forks Road in North Hills in 2020 and was 99% leased by mid-2022. Kane Realty Corp.

Hannah Smith, marketing manager for Kane Realty Corp., said the tower, which opened in 2020, is fully leased except for vacant retail space on the ground floor.

It is also home to the headquarters of Advance Auto Parts, as the name suggests, as well as IAT Insurance Group, US Radiology Specialists, and the American Board of Anesthesiology. Relay will lease over 31,000 square feet.

Kane is developing a billion-dollar “innovation district” on nearby 33 acres to attract tech and life science companies to North Hills.

Relay was a start-up founded by Republic Wireless (now owned by DISH) and its former headquarters were on the Centennial Campus of NC State University, a representative told The News & Observer.

They have 124 full-time employees and advertise for a variety of positions.
