Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio inc. (NYSE: NIO) Fights Back Criticism Over Its Lack Of Strong Software Capabilities By Releasing New Smart Operating System, cnEVpost reported Tuesday.
What happened: Nio released version 3.0.0 of the NIO operating system which has a new user interface and interaction design and also optimizes the functional experience of NIO Pilot as well as NOMI, the report notes.
The new software is the biggest change Nio has made to its on-board system since the company’s inception, according to the report.
NIO OS will also adopt Aspen software architecture for NT1 platform vehicles, including NIO ES8, ES6 and EC6 SUV models.
NIO OS will adopt the Banyan software architecture for the ET7 sedan and later models of the NT2 platform.

Why is this important: Nio, manufacturer of high-end electric vehicles, relies on service offers to have an impact on its customers in China. The company has impressed electric vehicle buyers in China with its Nio Life lifestyle app.
Nio customers have urged the company to make improvements to its onboard software as well.
The company suffered a setback last month after a fatal accident involving a Chinese contractor driving an NIO ES8 SUV with the autopilot function enabled.
Price action: Nio shares closed up nearly 4% when trading Tuesday at $ 39.31.
