Foxconn plans to establish a software R&D center, in line with its goal of becoming a software-defined company in the future.

Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) plans to establish a software R&D center with more than 1,500 talents in Hon Hai, with the intention of recruiting more than 1,000 additional software development engineers over the next three years. This announcement, made on Hon Hai Tech Day 2021 (HHTD21), demonstrates the Group’s determination to become a software-defined company in the future.

Hon Hai also announced the launch and activation details of partners around software innovations such as Smart Gateway, Smart Cockpit, Smart Autonomous Driving and other software applications. Dr Zhang Yang, founder of AutoCore.ai; Dr. Shinpei Kato, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Tier IV; along with Dr Xu Hongmin, CTO of Mobile Drive, shared more about the nature of collaboration as well as their views on the role of platform, shared data, IT and applications in development software for electric vehicles.

Hon Hai also announced that it will set up a software R&D center with more than 1,500 software application talents within the group, and plans to recruit more than 1,000 senior software R&D engineers within three years, as an important starting point for “Hon Hai Hai” in the future. The group welcomes those interested in the field of electric vehicle software to drive together the future intelligent electric car.

During the afternoon session of HHTD21, the industry’s top experts in the field of EV software development were invited to share their latest research findings and insights. Mobile Drive’s Dr Xu shared his take on the development of Smart Cockpit and how to integrate AI technology into basic services to deliver a safe and advanced driving experience.

AutoCore.ai’s Dr Zhang, who is a world-renowned expert in intelligent electric vehicle development, shared his insight into automotive software and AutoCore.ai’s success as an SoC-independent EV computing platform. . He demonstrated how the platform can deliver low cost, low power consumption, scalable and reliable system development in a safe manner. This will allow it to function as a communication backbone in the vehicle.

Dr. Kato of Tier IV, a key strategic partner in the development of software for electric vehicles, delivered a keynote on intelligent autonomous driving and presented how Tier IV uses Autoware to drive the commercialization of autonomous vehicles and verification of the industry. He also spoke about his collaboration with Hon Hai on integrated autonomous driving solutions and his plans globally.

At HHTD21, Hon Hai not only strengthened his resolve to develop software for electric vehicles, but also said his software-defined business model is moving forward.
